" The rules on the management of public order have not changed , this time too we will not avoid an evaluation of what has happened ." This is assured by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi , who in an interview with Corriere della Sera explains that he shares the words of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella on the case of the truncheon beatings of young people in Pisa.

«As all policemen share them - adds the minister -. We all always hope that public demonstrations take place peacefully and without incidents ."

Fundamental in this sense, explains Piantedosi, is also the collaboration of the demonstrators themselves .

For more than a year, there have been over 13 thousand public demonstrations managed by the police. "And of these only a small part have recorded accidents - observes the minister - with a prevalence of injuries among the police forces compared to the demonstrators".

Seeing the images of Pisa « displeased and embittered me too – continues Piantedosi –. When physical contact with minors occurs, it is in any case necessary to carry out every objective examination of how the facts happened. I asked for a detailed report."

However, he adds, "our police forces are among the best in the world also precisely from the point of view of the democratic management of demonstrations of free dissent".

In the last few hours in Milan « the police managed yet another demanding demonstration in which 15 thousand people took part and during which unfortunately once again we witnessed offensive and violent behavior . Yet despite the requirements imposed by the authorities, many of which were disregarded, the demonstrators freely expressed their thoughts without any criticism." The government "has no interest in riots occurring, on the contrary it wants to ensure the maximum expression of citizens' freedoms in an orderly and peaceful manner".

And when asked whether he will go to Parliament to report, as requested by the opposition, the minister explains that he has always done so for the issues that concern him, and that he is also available this time for discussions, he says, «which I hope will be calm and constructive, and not prejudicially oriented towards discrediting the action of the government or the police forces".

He then recalls that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni «follows or coordinates all issues and themes relevant to the overall government action. But the responsibility for maintaining public order and security is mine - he underlines - and I am also responsible towards him".
