No father should outlive his children.

It is repeated continuously by Cesare Mascotto , the 82-year-old former entrepreneur who has been visiting the tomb of his son Florindo every day for 13 months -   died on April 9 last year of brain tumor at age 51 -   in the Sarego cemetery , in the province of Vicenza, and remains there for hours.

The story is told on the pages of the Corriere del Veneto. From Monday to Sunday, in the rain or in the sweltering heat, Mascotto arrives by car at the gate, takes out a red folding chair that belonged to "Flori" as a child, sits next to the place of his last rest and stays there for at least six hours , three in the morning and as many in the afternoon.

A routine that has made him become a "guardian" and a familiar presence for the other people who frequent the cemetery.

"I have always come except for two days because I have been to Lake Trasimeno - he says -. I had bought my son a house there to take a little vacation. He was highly esteemed by many in the village; the day of his funeral there is there were so many people that the police intervened to ask to scatter ".

"It is such an unnatural and cruel pain - he continues - I was with him throughout his illness. He was so good, perhaps too much".
