At 14 he gave a cardiac massage for a quarter of an hour , waiting for the ambulance and guided by the 118 operators, saving the life of an elderly man suffering from a heart attack near his home . He had seen it done the night before in a film on TV, he had been left at home grounded.

The story with a happy ending comes from Colognola ai Colli, the Veronese hinterland . The protagonist of the episode, which took place last Sunday, is Matteo, a boy who has now become a little hero among friends and classmates. “At least if I'm about to die there's you to help me,” they tell him.

Matteo's story: «I was about to go to my friends to play football, when I hear a lady screaming 100 meters away from me. I see the gentleman on the ground, I fear he is dead. Then I go to see and the lady tells me that he is in cardiac arrest, he has lost consciousness ."

At that point " I decided to take matters into my own hands, I called 118 and told them where I was so that the ambulance could come. Then I was there for 10-15 minutes doing the cardiac massage ."

In the meantime the ambulance has arrived and the elderly man is safe and sound. « The 118 operators guided me – explains Matteo – but I was also inspired by a film I saw on TV on Saturday evening. I stayed at home because I was grounded ."

The mayor of Colognola, Giovanna Piubello, knows Matteo well because, as a midwife, she also gave birth to him 14 years ago. "We will reward him," he announced, also putting forward the hypothesis of his candidacy as Standard Bearer of the Republic.

« Well done Matteo! He demonstrated what many adults too often fail to do: overcoming the temptation to turn their heads the other way and take responsibility in the face of an emergency and a request for help ", commented the president of Veneto, Luca Zaia.
