The investigations opened after the attack on the Battistolli armored convoy on the Aurelia variant lead increasingly to Sardinia and Siena.

The Carabinieri (Sardinian and Tuscan Commands) are working on the theft of the vans used to “bottle up” the convoy of armored vans between the San Vincenzo Nord and San Vincenzo Sud exits.

The vehicles used by the robbers who took action on the afternoon of March 28 were stolen at the end of October last year from a Siena-based operator who transports horses and other animals throughout the country and abroad: the victim of the theft is well-known in the stables and riding stables environment, frequented by many Sardinians for work reasons.

The bandits controlled the movements of the vans until they were parked in a square on a road in the Due Ponti area, near Siena. The theft was reported immediately and there are images, the owner of the vehicles had positioned them in a video surveillance area.

The investigation is conducted in Sardinia, Ogliastra and Barbagia, and in some locations in Maremma closer to Siena.

Technical investigations are reportedly underway on fingerprints found in the vehicles used by the bandits.
