The Supreme Court of Cassation has revoked Amanda Knox 's conviction for slander by ordering "a new examination on the point" by the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Florence.

The known facts are those relating to the murder of Meredith Kercher in 2007 in Perugia, when the American student accused the manager of the pub where she worked, Patrick Lumumba , of the crime, which later turned out to be completely unrelated to the facts.

Now Giuliano Mignini , the currently retired magistrate who coordinated the investigation into the murder, doesn't agree: « I've never understood why Amanda Knox accused Lumumba. Why did you avail yourself of the right not to respond in the validation hearing? And why didn't you ask to speak to me in those days to recant?".

The former magistrate expects a new trial and to be called into the courtroom as a witness: "Otherwise how will they decide?", he asks.

To understand how the new exam will take place, however, it will be necessary to wait for the Court's reasons, expected in about twenty days.

The magistrate returned to the night three of November 5 and 6 in which Knox accused Lumumba to the police. «When I arrived at the police station - he remembers - Amanda was crying but hers were liberating tears . She had arrived spontaneously with her then boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and when she was heard as a person informed of the facts there were two interpreters. She was investigated the next morning, the 6th, and at that moment a defense lawyer was made available to her as expected. Even though she herself kept repeating that she didn't want it."

« Of all the decisions that have taken place – concludes Mignini – this last one is the least understandable ».

The decision of the Supreme Court instead creates hope in Raffaele Sollecito , who awaits the decision of the ECHR (European Court of Human Rights) for compensation for unjust detention and that of the Supreme Court for the civil liability of magistrates. He asked for a million euros .

«I'm happy for her, a beautiful and unexpected goal», his words. « In light of this news I hope that in my proceedings they realize the grave injustice and damage caused to me »
