"We will file a motion to challenge cardiac surgeon Mauro Rinaldi, who is on the panel of experts selected by the Naples investigating judge for the preliminary hearing," announced Francesco Petruzzi, lawyer for the family of Domenico Caliendo, the child who died on February 21st after a failed heart transplant.
"From a simple web search," the lawyer explains, "it appears that Rinaldi, a full professor of cardiac surgery at the University of Turin, made an improper pre-appointment disclosure regarding the facts at issue in the investigation and that, furthermore, he is co-author of a scientific publication by one of the doctors under investigation."
By virtue of this, "we believe there is a lack of guarantees of impartiality, necessary for the performance of the expert assignment."
