A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck 250 kilometers deep off the Tyrrhenian coast of Cosenza. The shock was felt throughout the southern regions, including Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata, and Sicily.
In several localities, some citizens took to the streets and began calling both the regional Civil Protection and the firefighters.
The regional Civil Protection operations room, director Domenico Costarella reported, contacted all the mayors in the areas closest to the epicenter, such as Cetrato, Lamezia Terme, and Amantea, but no reports of damage were received.
The situation, however, is under constant monitoring.
