A "ghost" yacht, with no one on board and with the engine running, beached on Sunday afternoon, to everyone's amazement, on the beach of Fregene in Lazio.

Investigations were started immediately by the Port Authority of Rome. And, during the night, the mystery was clarified: in recent days, the three occupants of the unit - while sailing from Santa Marinella to Marseille - had sent a distress message due to a breakdown and had been rescued about 70 miles off the coast of Anzio from a ferry used to transport passengers, the Excelsior, which then proceeded to disembark them, in "excellent health conditions", in the port of Genoa.

The boat, left adrift, then ran aground on the Roman coast.

The Port Authority of Rome has already undertaken the necessary contacts to remove the unit and to avoid any type of pollution or damage.

Following the discovery of some documents and receipts on board, a targeted investigation attempted to understand the last days of the vessel by reconstructing its movements.
