He attacked his ex-partner on the street in Catania, hitting her in the face with a stone, causing a broken nose and head injury.
The man, a 35-year-old Colombian, attacked the woman on Via Velo, in the San Cristoforo neighborhood, in front of several passersby who immediately alerted the police operations room.
Police officers from the Police Headquarters arrived on the scene and assisted the woman, also Colombian, who was visibly shaken and had a bloody face. Emergency services were called immediately, and she was rushed to the emergency room by ambulance for treatment and checks.
While awaiting emergency medical assistance, the police identified the attacker thanks to the assistance of a witness who identified the man, pointing him out among the people present at the scene. During the heated attack, some passersby attempted to help the woman, attempting to save her from her partner's violence. According to what the police learned, the victim was attacked within seconds by the man, who repeatedly kicked and punched her, then struck her in the face with the rock he picked up from the ground. Despite the police presence, the 35-year-old, as soon as he realized the woman had regained consciousness, attempted to lunge at her again, but was forcefully restrained by the police.
The man strenuously resisted the officers who were shielding the woman, and in an attempt to break free, he shoulder-bumped one officer in the chest. The 35-year-old was subsequently arrested for grievous bodily harm and resisting arrest and, by order of the Catania Prosecutor's Office, was transferred to the holding cells at the Police Headquarters pending a summary judgment.
