Two Carabinieri officers from the Cagliari Carabinieri Mobile Radio Unit allegedly beat a 41-year-old bricklayer from Iglesias during an arrest for resisting arrest in late July 2022, causing facial injuries, a fractured rib, and hearing damage. Following the investigation, officers Loris Bucelli and Claudio Lubrano, aged 37 and 44, respectively, now face trial because Deputy Prosecutor Danilo Tronci has requested that both be sent to trial on suspicion of serious injury (expectations of more than 30 days).
Meanwhile, Filippo Muredda, the man who was also arrested with the aid of a Taser, is still defending himself against charges of resisting arrest (as well as contempt, assault, and unjustified possession of offensive objects: a billhook and a pipe he had in his car) with his lawyer Franco Villa, in the trial currently underway before Judge Simone Nespoli.
Reports of the arrest stated that the 41-year-old, with no criminal record, was placed under house arrest after being stopped in a Golf on Via Abruzzi for a check: he allegedly handed over his ID but not his driving licence. At that point, the officers allegedly asked him to get out, but he punched one of the officers, who struggled to subdue him, resulting in facial injuries. The bricklayer's version, however, is completely different: he claims he was violently and unprovokedly beaten while in the car (this is evidenced by blood traces found during defense investigations after the Golf was released), and then continued to the police station. The two Carabinieri are being represented by lawyer Giorgio Carta.
