The Italian Thomas D'Alba, who served in the Folgore and about two years ago had enlisted with Ukraine, died in Sumy. Various media reported the news, including Avvenire, which cites the announcement on social media by a Ukrainian digital creator and activist, Vladislav Maistrouk, who knew him and had recently met him.
D'Alba, originally from Legnano, died around mid-June. "He was a kind and brave man, an Italian. He fell in battle, in Donbas, defending Ukraine and Europe," writes Mainstrouk. He is the seventh Italian to die fighting in the war unleashed by Moscow against Kiev. Before him, Manuel Mameli, a 25-year-old from Selargius.
The first Italian victim dates back to April 2022: one month after the start of the war, Edy Ongaro, 46, originally from Portogruaro (Venice), was killed. In September of the same year, it was the turn of Benjamin Giorgio Galli, a 27-year-old originally from Varese, who died after being wounded in battle. A month later , Elia Putzolu, 27-year-old of Sardinian origins, born in Rome and raised in Tuscany , was killed in Donetsk: he had sided with the pro-Russians. In November 2024, the death of Angelo Costanza, 42, from Favara but resident in Belgium, was announced: his fate, however, is still a mystery, because according to some sources he was captured. Finally, in May, Antonio Omar Dridi, 35-year-old from Palermo, and Mameli were killed.
