Hundreds of people demonstrated yesterday in central Tunis against the policies of President Kais Saïed, responding to the call of the civic movement Nafas.
Several local media reported this, specifying that the demonstration, which started from Place du Passage, crossed the center of the capital until reaching Avenue Habib Bourguiba and the Municipal Theater.
At the heart of the protests are the high cost of living, the loss of purchasing power, unemployment , difficulties in accessing medicines, and interruptions in the water and electricity supply.
During the march, directly political slogans were also chanted against Saïed and for the release of political prisoners. Several opposition groups had announced their participation in the demonstration, including the Islamist-led coalition National Salvation Front, the Islamist Ennahda, the Democratic Current, Al Joumhouri, and the Free Democratic Party, despite the profound differences that separate some of these groups.
A significant security measure had been put in place in the center of the capital, with road closures and barriers along the route. The turnout was lower than at the previous anti-Saied demonstration on July 25th.
