Donald Trump hinted today that he might meet Vladimir Putin early in his presidency.

Speaking at the Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, Arizona, the tycoon reiterated his desire to end the war in Ukraine “quickly” and then said: “One of the things I want to do quickly is meet with President Putin, and he agrees to that as well.”

Meanwhile, the Russian president promises revenge after a Ukrainian drone strike that targeted the Russian city of Kazan, a thousand kilometers from the border, and is banking on gas to maintain influence over Europe, receiving Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico in the Kremlin, who is concerned about Kiev's halt to the transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory. "We will not extend" the transit agreement to Europe, "we will not give Moscow the opportunity to earn more billions on our blood and the skin of the Ukrainians," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced at the European Council on December 19. Confirmation also came from Putin the following day at the end-of-year press conference: the five-year contract will expire on December 31 and will not be renewed. A decision that did not please Hungary and Slovakia, which are heavily dependent on Russian gas.

Fico is also on the same line as Viktor Orban, who blames Kiev for the failure to reach an agreement for peace talks, and has stopped aid to Ukraine since the beginning of his new mandate as prime minister, a year ago. He also recently accepted Putin's invitation to the ceremonies in May in Moscow for the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism.
