Donald Trump is plotting revenge against NATO allies who failed to assist him in the Iran war and failed to intervene to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.
The tycoon's main targets are Spain and Great Britain. An internal Pentagon email outlines the various options available to the United States, including suspending Spain from the Atlantic Alliance and revising the US position on Britain's claim to the Falkland Islands .
The policy options are detailed in a memo expressing frustration over the alleged reluctance or refusal of some allies to grant the United States access, basing, and overflight rights (known as ABOs) for the war against Iran , said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the email. According to the official, the email stated that ABOs are "only the absolute starting point for NATO," adding that the options were circulating at the highest levels of the Pentagon.
One of the options proposed in the email also included suspending "difficult" countries from important or prestigious positions within NATO , the official said.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has denied the use of military bases, the Rota naval base and the Morón air base in Andalusia, and subsequently the use of their airspace for aircraft engaged in the US-Israeli operation against Iran. The plan would have a strong symbolic, rather than operational, value: in Spain's case, it would serve to send a political signal to its European allies, accused by President Donald Trump's administration of not sharing the burden of security.
Sanchez, asked about the matter, cut it short: "We are not basing ourselves on emails, we are basing ourselves on official documents and government positions, in this case that of the United States," declared the Spanish Prime Minister on the sidelines of the informal EU summit in Cyprus.
