In Germany, Alternative fuer Deutschland (AFD) triumphs in Saxony-Anhalt with over 44% of the vote attributed to its candidate Ulrich Siegmund, who even before the final results were announced was exulting: "We have made history."

Outgoing CDU Prime Minister Sven Schulze is said to have taken 18.5 percent, with the Christian Democratic Party suffering a dramatic decline from its 37 percent share in the previous round.

The Greens are also expected to enter the Saxony-Anhalt parliament with 9% and Sahra Wagenkneckt's BSW, which would receive 5% (the threshold). Also in are the Left Party (9.5%) and the Social Democrats (8%). The Liberals are expected to receive 2%.
