Donald Trump's envoys, a White House official told AFP, discussed with Putin "concrete plans for next steps, which will be announced in the coming weeks, and look forward to similarly productive meetings in Ukraine."

At this stage, the acting head of sanctions for the U.S. Treasury, Gene Lange, also took action. He participated in the preparatory meeting with the president's foreign investment adviser and Russian negotiator, Kirill Dmitriev, but did not attend the meeting with Vladimir Putin. Axios reports this, citing sources who say Lange's participation suggests that sanctions against Russia were part of the discussions.
