Canada's next government will be formed by Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party.

For the current prime minister, therefore, the road to a third term is open, even if it is not yet clear from the results of the early elections whether he will head a majority or minority executive.

"You (Canadians) are sending us back to work with a clear mandate to overcome this pandemic and get to brighter days - said the newly re-elected Canadian prime minister -. This is exactly what we are ready to do".

Trudeau's campaign was not a simple one, as he called early elections in mid-August to regain the majority lost two years earlier. He succeeded, even though he did not obtain an absolute majority.

According to the latest projections, preliminary results confirm that the Liberal Party would get around 155 seats: below the threshold of 170 which allows it to obtain a majority.

"We have worked very hard on this campaign and the Canadians are making an important choice," he said yesterday, surrounded by his children and his wife Sophie Grégoire.

Up until the end, the polls have given the liberals head to head with the conservatives led by leader Erin O'Toole.
