After launching their blackmail ("we will start talking about women's rights when we are recognized in the legitimacy of our government"), the Taliban are now asking to speak to the UN General Assembly in New York.

Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttagi sent a letter to Secretary General Antonio Guterres explaining that he wanted to speak during the international forum. The spokesman stationed in Qatar, Suhail Shaheen, has already been appointed as the new representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, thus opening a dispute with the ambassador Ghulam Isaczai, appointed by the deposed government.

The date assumed for the intervention, according to the work program, is that of Monday 27 September.

"The Taliban would like to speak to the UN? First they show that they respect women's rights. We need facts, not words" was the comment of the Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio.
