The father of a seven-year-old Michigan girl who had her hair cut at school without parental consent sued the local school district for compensation of one million dollars (about 850,000 euros).

According to US media reports, the man sued Mount Pleasant Public Schools for violation of constitutional rights, racial discrimination, ethnic intimidation, emotional distress, assault and beatings.

The little girl's father, who has an African-American parent, said her daughter arrived home from Ganiard Elementary School last March with much of her hair cut on one side of her head. the child explained that a white classmate on the school bus had cut them. The parents had reported the episode to the director of the school and then took the girl to the hairdresser for an asymmetrical cut in order to make the difference in hair length between the two sides less obvious. However, two days later, the little girl came home with her hair cut on the other side of her head as well. And this time it was the teacher who cut them.

The school district, according to lawyers, "has failed to adequately train, monitor, direct, discipline and supervise its employees ...".

A librarian and a teacher's assistant are also involved in the case.
