"The population of the Strip has been paying a very high price for too long. As Pope Leo XIV emphasized, children, the elderly, and the sick pay . These innocent deaths wound our values and outrage our consciences. The legitimate reaction of the Israeli government to a terrible and senseless terrorist act is taking on absolutely dramatic and unacceptable forms."

Thus said Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in his briefing to the Chamber on the position of the Italian Government regarding the situation in the Middle East.

"The bombings must stop, humanitarian assistance must resume as soon as possible, respect for international humanitarian law must be restored," Tajani added.

"I want to reiterate this clearly: - continued the Foreign Minister - the only possible prospect for peace, the essential objective remains the start of a political process that leads to two states living together in peace and security".

Tajani also highlighted that Italy is working "with a 360-degree action with all our partners, starting with the European ones and with Secretary of State Rubio, with whom we are carrying out an intense diplomatic action to reconnect the threads of dialogue and stop the catastrophe".
