Houthi militants are attempting to independently produce advanced medium-range ballistic missiles using components supplied by China, a technological advance that would increase the threat from the Iran-backed group.

The Houthis have procured from a Chinese supplier a series of components needed to build a version of one of Iran's most powerful weapons: the Kheibar Shekan precision-guided missile. This is what emerges from a report by Conflict Armament Research, an organization that operates in conflict zones and documents weapons use and supply chains.

supply.

The weapon in the hands of the Houthis would have a range of about 1,200 miles (about 1,900 km), making all of Saudi Arabia and Israel potential targets.

Iran used the Kheibar Shekan, a mobile and inexpensive precision weapon first demonstrated in Tehran in 2022 , against American bases with some success during hostilities with the United States last spring.
