Northern Europe lashed by storm Malik, which caused extensive damage and even casualties and injuries.
Among the countries hit by rain and violent gusts of wind is Germany, especially the northern and eastern regions, where at least one death is recorded: it is a 58-year-old man who was killed by the fall of an electoral manifesto in due to the strong wind while he was walking down the street with his partner in Beelitz, near Berlin.
In Bremen, however, a tree fell on a passerby, seriously injuring him, according to the fire brigade.
Finally, in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region (north-east), a motorcycle driver was seriously injured when he hit a fallen tree on the road.
Long-distance rail traffic was partially interrupted last night in several northern and eastern regions of the country, in particular between Hamburg, Berlin and Bremen, and was interrupted on Sunday, in particular due to the fall of trees or branches on the tracks.
At least one person also died in Denmark, where, as well as in other Scandinavian countries, there are also severe inconveniences due to flooded roads and frequent blackouts. The victim is a 78-year-old woman who died in the center of the country hit by a door due to the strong wind.
Meteorological services in Sweden and Denmark have warned of possible floods and reported hurricane-force winds at night. The Oresund bridge connecting Denmark and Sweden had to be closed to traffic on Saturday evening and was barred for hours.
The Swedish Transport Administration has also advised against unnecessary travel over the weekend due to felled trees and wind-blown objects. Rescue services in Sweden and Denmark reported hundreds of emergency calls.
