In Singapore, people who are not vaccinated by choice and fall ill with Covid will have to pay their medical bills from 8 December next.

The international media reported this, citing the NGO Health Minister Ye Kung who spoke of the need to give an "important signal" to the no vax.

Medical expenses for people not eligible for vaccination - such as children under the age of 12 or people who are unable to get vaccinated due to health problems - remain the government's responsibility.

Singapore, which with 85% of the population fully vaccinated has some of the highest coverage rates in the world, has been struggling with the rise in Covid-19 infections in the last month with the risk of a collapse of its health system.
