She took off her veil at school, and was arrested. But the story of Masooumeh, 14, ended even more tragically because the girl died shortly after arriving at the hospital on the outskirts of Tehran, Iran.

As reported by Hadi Ghaemi, director of the "Center for Human Rights in Iran", an NGO based in New York, the teenager uncovered her head to commemorate Mahsa Amini , the 22-year-old arrested by the morality police because she was not wearing the hijab appropriately, died on September 16 from beatings received while in custody. The security forces identified the 14-year-old through the school's security cameras and took her to the barracks. During custody, adds Ghaemi, "she was raped". Death occurred from severe vaginal bleeding.

Traces of her mother, on the other hand, have been lost: she had promised to make her daughter's dramatic fate public.
