Always pay attention to the origin of fish and shellfish. Kim Taia knows this well, a New Zealand woman who is miraculously alive today and wanted to tell her story to the local media.

The woman collected clams on the beach and ate them, within a few hours she was completely paralyzed . A paralysis that lasted 12 hours before the hospital doctors managed to save her.

Kim had in fact ingested without his knowledge the paralyzing poison of bivalves , a naturally occurring biotoxin that is produced by a micro algae and can contaminate clams and molluscs.

THE STORY

“I collected clams on Little Waihi Beach ,” he explains. After eating them she went to sleep: “The next day when I woke up I was numb. I felt dizzy, I could not speak clearly and I was dizzy, I was wondering what was wrong ”.

Then he began to lose sensitivity in his hands and arms, as the minutes passed the situation got worse and worse so that he could not speak. At that point the son called the ambulance: “I felt like I was under anesthesia, getting weaker and weaker. My breathing slowed down and I thought I was going to die , at one point I couldn't move anymore ”.

Conditions started to improve after 12 hours. The effects of this biotoxin are devastating , it affects the nervous system and paralyzes the muscles. Without medical intervention it can be lethal.
