Moscow and its region were hit overnight by massive Ukrainian drone strikes that killed two people, damaged an oil refinery, and grounded more than 30 flights at the Russian capital's airports . Russian news agency Tass reported.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that air defense forces repelled the largest-ever enemy drone attack on the city. The attack coincides with the upcoming elections for the Russian State Duma.
Ukrainian forces launched 1,110 drones last night over 19 Russian regions , including Moscow, occupied Crimea, and the Black Sea. The Russian Defense Ministry reported the incident, saying that all the aircraft were intercepted. In addition to the Moscow region, the regions targeted included Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Ryazan, Tula, Kaluga, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Tambov, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Smolensk, Orel, Rostov, Volgograd, Saratov, Samara, and Krasnodar Krai.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed responsibility and clarified on his Telegram channel: "Flamingo cruise missiles and the new Pelican ballistic missiles were also used. Our long-range responses were particularly effective . One of the main Russian oil industry plants and an important logistics center of the aggressor were hit.
