Voter turnout for the presidential elections in Russia exceeded 50%, according to what was announced by the Central Election Commission, cited by the Ria Novosti agency.

The elections will end tomorrow and the operations are resulting in several incidents of protest (in Moscow and other cities, for example, ink was spilled in the ballot boxes ) and even arrests.

The chairwoman of the Commission for Public Control and Citizens' Appeals Alena Bulgakova speaks of "organised and deliberate provocations".

The spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, instead accused Western countries of inciting Russian citizens to carry out "acts of vandalism" at polling stations and diplomats from these countries in Moscow of doing "everything to interfere in the vote". The West "has simply turned to extremist activities," the spokeswoman said.
