Violent clashes, gunshots and a fire in the Evin prison in Tehran , where political prisoners are held and where the Italian Alessia Piperno is also located. The Italian girl is fine, reports the Farnesina which has contacted the Italian embassy in Tehran.

The toll is four dead and 61 injured inmates , the Iranian judicial authority said.

Hundreds of people arrested in the protests that inflamed Iranian cities after Mahsa Amini's death are locked up in this prison, where torture is also used according to NGOs.

An explosion was also heard, while many inside the institute shouted "death to the dictator". According to various sources , the fire broke out after a riot of detainees : gunshots were heard and groups of people gathered near the prison shouting various slogans.

During the clashes between inmates and prison guards in section 7, a fire broke out, according to what is learned, the rioters set fire to a clothing store.

At least eight were wounded, it seems that the rioters have been "neutralized" and separated from the other prisoners . The police also fired tear gas at the families of the arrested activists and students, who had gathered around the prison, and blocked the access roads to the prison.
