"The Regeni affair was an abuse, interpreted by some as the result of a rivalry between the Mid, the Military Intelligence Department and National Security."

These are the revelations contained in confidential documents published by the French investigative site Disclose, and taken up today by the newspaper la Repubblica.

The site refers to a cable from the French embassy in Cairo on October 30, 2017. Disclose, writes Repubblica, "has launched an investigation into the relations between Paris and the Al Sisi regime. Starting with the sale by three companies French software that made it possible to intercept billions of telephone and internet communications, locating the positions of users: a mass surveillance system that Cairo allegedly exploited to arrest thousands of political opponents and dissidents ".

"The software - continues the newspaper - was used just when Giulio Regeni was in Cairo." then killed ".

"From the cables that emerged from the Disclose investigation - it is still reported - two circumstances emerge: that France immediately assumed direct responsibility for national security in the Regeni affair (...) which benefits from an extremely dense network of informants and that he uses this information as an instrument of pressure. Exactly what happened with Giulio who was betrayed by a street vendor he had contacted for his university research ".

Furthermore, "from the cables it emerges that French President Emmanuel Macron spoke yes to Egypt in some cases of human rights (...). But the document never mentions the Regeni murder despite the fact that in March 2016 the Parliament European Union had approved a very harsh resolution on the matter ".
