"The Queen asked me to thank her for her thoughtful message of affection which she sent to her on the occasion of the death of Her Majesty's beloved husband, the Duke of Edinburgh."

Queen Elizabeth II sent a letter, on Buckingham Palace letterhead, signed by Andrew Paterson, director of operations, office of Her Majesty's private secretary, to former League leader Umberto Bossi, who had written her a message of condolences for the death of Philip of Edinburgh , which took place on April 21st.

"The queen was impressed by the messages received and is very grateful for her kind words", the letter continues.

The letter arrived today in the Senate.

Philip of Edinburgh died at the age of 99. Married since 1947, Philip and Elizabeth met in the summer of 1939, when Elizabeth was just 13 years old.
