Patrick Zaki was sentenced to three years in prison .

This was reported by one of the activist's 4 lawyers at the end of today's hearing in Mansura, Egypt.

Zaki was taken from the courtroom through the passageway into the defendants' cage amid the cries of his mother and fiancée waiting outside.

Calculating the already discounted pre-trial detention, lawyer Hazem Salah explained, he still has "one year and two months in prison" left . The Egyptian researcher spent 22 months in remand in prison until December 2021.

The young man's lawyers announce an appeal: " We will ask the military governor to cancel the sentence or to have the trial re-done as happened in the case of Ahmed Samir Santawy", said Hoda Nasrallah speaking in front of the Mansura courthouse where the sole judge of a state security court.
