Patrick Zaki has returned free after the pardon granted to him by Egyptian President Al Sisi.

The student of the University of Bologna who ended up under indictment at home for "propaganda of false news" was released by the New Mansura police.

As soon as he was released, Zaki embraced his mother Hala, his girlfriend Reny Iskander, his sister Marise and his father George.

The young man - who expressed the desire to "return to Italy soon" - had been convicted with a final sentence for an article written in 2019 on the Coptic minority. Of the 3 years he would have had to serve another 14 months, but - also thanks to pressure from the Italian government - President Al Sisi has decided to grant him the cancellation of the sentence.
