Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, announced that he will invite his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu to protest the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

"We have no choice but to challenge this decision. I will invite" Netanyahu "to come to Hungary, where I can assure him that the International Criminal Court ruling will have no effect," he said in an interview on state radio.

The provocative announcement comes after Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court yesterday issued warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in connection with the war in Gaza.

The same warrant was issued for Hamas leader Deif, whom the Jewish state believes to have killed. The accusation is that of "war crimes".
