After the government of the Fiji Islands, which sent 50 soldiers, New Zealand also decided to send reinforcements to the Solomon Islands, which have been in check for days due to violent riots culminating in the death of three people and extensive damage in the capital Honiara. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern explained that she had received a special request from the government of the archipelago for the dispatch of 65 peacekeepers between police and military officers to the scene. The first contingent of 15 will be dispatched tomorrow while the other 50 will follow them over the weekend.
