Benjamin Netanyahu, at the White House for a dinner with the US president, said he had nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize .
Netanyahu handed the US president a letter he had sent to the award committee. “He is forging peace as we speak, in country after country, in region after region,” the Israeli prime minister said during dinner with Trump.
And Trump himself continues to nominate himself: "I stopped five countries from going to war," he declared, recalling the agreements he brokered between Congo and Rwanda, India and Pakistan. "And instead the prize will be won by an unknown professor."
What was supposed to be a private dinner was then opened to journalists. The relocation of Palestinians was discussed: "We are working with the US to find other countries where the displaced can live," the Israeli prime minister said.
“There are people,” he explained, “who want to stay or can stay, but if they want to leave, they should be able to leave. It should not be a prison. It should be an open place, and people should be given the freedom to choose . We are working very closely with the United States to find countries that will try to implement what they always say, if they want to give the Palestinians a better future, and I think we are getting closer to finding several countries. We have had great cooperation from many neighboring countries, great cooperation from each of them. So something good will happen.”
Then, the Israeli prime minister made it clear that Gaza will remain in the hands of Israel: "I believe that the Palestinians should have all the powers to govern themselves, but none of these powers should threaten us. This means that the decision-making power, as well as general security, will always remain in our hands. Now, this is a fact, and no one in Israel will accept anything different, because we cannot ignore certain facts."
