The new owner of Twitter Elon Musk has launched a referendum on the platform to ask users to express themselves on the possibility of a return of Donald Trump to the social network from which he was banned in the aftermath of the assault on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021.

Yesterday Musk rehabilitated some accounts but said he had not made any decisions on the former US president, then launched the referendum without clarifying whether he will decide on the basis of its outcome.

According to detractors, the decision to rely on the public rather than an internal control body to decide on Trump's return to what was his favorite and most used social network is " questionable and dangerous ".

In a short time , more than 6.5 million users voted , and those in favor of Trump's return prevail with more than 54%, while those against are close to 46% . The survey will end tomorrow around 1 am in Italy.

"Vox populi, vox Dei," Musk tweeted, quoting the sentence of ancient medieval tradition to say that popular or commonly accepted opinions and judgments must or can be considered true and just.
