The nightclub in Murcia where the tragic fire occurred in which 13 people lost their lives in the night between Saturday and Sunday had to be closed.

In 2022 it was ordered to close due to a series of irregularities.

The city's deputy mayor Antonio Navarro said that the Municipality of Murcia issued an order to close the nightclub in January 2022 following some irregularities found. Order against which the owners of the premises appealed. From that day, until yesterday's tragic fire, in fact, the nightclub remained open without any authorization.

Meanwhile, after a swing of numbers, the toll of 13 deaths has become definitive: the prefect Francesco Jimenez has announced that the last missing person has been found, he is at his relatives' home and is in good condition.

And controversy is mounting in the Spanish media over the lack of controls by the Comine of Murcia. Neither the current deputy mayor of the PP nor the previous councilor responsible, Andres Guerrero of the PSOE, were able to explain why from the moment the closure order was issued (almost two years ago) until yesterday's tragedy, no one carried out checks and checks on actual compliance with the order.

“It is impossible to know whether a place is open or not, even if there is a closure order,” the mayor said today. However, as anyone can verify online, La Fonda's Instagram account has publicized all of her many public events in recent months. And Murcia is a center of 400 thousand inhabitants, where it is not very difficult to know if a place is open or not.
