A serious humanitarian crisis threatens to undermine relations between the United States and Mexico. And some videos make it worse.

They show American border guards on horseback chasing and whipping dozens of migrants from Mexico as they attempt to cross the border into Texas, near the city of Del Rio. They are people - mainly from Haiti - who in these hours by the thousands are doing everything possible to arrive on American soil, even crossing the Rio Grande on foot and dragging on their heads everything they have decided to take with them.

Shocking images, spread by the US media, which embarrass Joe Biden's administration a few hours after the president's debut at the UN general assembly. A "horrible to see" scene, commented White House spokesperson Jen Psaki.

"I've seen some of the images, I don't have the full context but I can't imagine what context would make it appropriate," he said. "I think no one who has seen those images thinks it's acceptable or appropriate."

The government has announced the opening of an investigation to shed light on the facts.
