«We took stock of the excellent state of relations between Rome and Budapest, Hungary is a precious ally also within NATO. I am very satisfied with the strengthening of our relations." Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the end of the bilateral meeting with the Hungarian leader Viktor Orban, who was visiting Rome.

With Budapest, added Meloni after the face-to-face meeting at Palazzo Chigi, "we share the focus on the European competitiveness of the Hungarian presidency, but also the European defense and the new approach to agricultural policies".

The Prime Minister also spoke about the «government of migratory flows on which we agree: the new European approach that has consolidated in recent months, also at the push of Italy, must be consolidated, i.e. the defense of external borders and the fight against traffickers."

Another issue of agreement between Rome and Budapest, underlined the Prime Minister, is that of the fight against the birth rate, as the «demographic challenge – underlined Meloni – is the precondition for a Europe

strong".

Prime Minister Orban is on the same wavelength: «There is only one week left until the Hungarian presidency of the EU and Italy is one of our most important allies in achieving our objectives in the field of migration and competitiveness».
