A technical system failure has sent McDonald's around the world into a tailspin, preventing customers from ordering food.

The fast food chain's restaurants in Australia, the United Kingdom and Japan were the first to report it. “We are aware of a technology disruption that has impacted our restaurants; the issue is now being resolved,” a McDonald's spokesperson said, adding that the incident was “not related to a cybersecurity event.”

McDonald's has approximately 40,000 restaurants worldwide. Just over a thousand are in Australia and there are more than 1,450 in the UK. Japan has nearly 3,000 restaurants and is among the chain's largest markets. After the first minutes of trading on Wall Street, the stock still gained 0.5%.
