A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake has struck the southern Philippines. According to the National Seismological Bureau, the epicenter was located about 20 kilometers from the city of Manay , in the Mindanao region. Authorities have warned of the possibility of damage and aftershocks, while a tsunami warning has been issued along the affected coasts.

"A destructive tsunami with life-threatening wave heights is expected" on the archipelago's eastern coast , the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported. "Coastal residents in these areas are strongly advised to immediately evacuate to higher ground or move further inland," it added.

No casualties or damage were immediately reported. The earthquake struck just 11 days after a magnitude 6.9 quake killed 74 people and destroyed or damaged approximately 72,000 homes on the central island of Cebu.
