The Security Directorate in Sabha, southern Libya , has seized and destroyed an unspecified number of the popular Labubu dolls produced by Chinese toy giant Pop Mart, deeming them a "negative" commercial phenomenon and in conflict with the country's social and religious values.
The operation was accompanied by a warning to traders not to sell or import the dolls, with the announcement of legal action in case of violations.
Seizures were carried out at various shops, and authorities banned the sale of Labubu in the city, calling it a "negative trend" that "violates social and Islamic morality." No nationwide measures have been announced so far.
Labubu, collectible dolls originally created as characters in the series 'The Monsters' created by Hong Kong illustrator Kasing Lung, have enjoyed global success.
