Images of his rescue had gone around the world in the midst of the Afghan crisis . For that little girl, Liya, who was only 16 days old a month and a half ago, the doors of a new life have opened.

On August 19, his father, who had long been at the Kabul airport to help the marines in evacuations after the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan, in the throng of the crowd trying to flee the country, asked a marine standing in a vehicle to help bring the child to safety by making her cross the barbed wire.

“I knew he would never make it. She would have died crushed, God forbid, or seriously injured, "said dad Hameed.

At the airport there was also the child's mother, Sadia, who fell ill in the crowd. Hameed took care of her too, then went back to work with the evacuations.

The family was later put on a direct flight to the United States with other refugees. They now live in Phoenix, Arizona. Hameed is happy but has only one desire: to meet that marine who saved his little girl's life.
