Massacre of children in Kenya, due to a terrible fire that broke out during the night in Kieni, in Nyeri County, inside the dormitory of the Hillside Endarasha Academy school.

There are at least 70 young victims, including confirmed deaths and missing persons.

The flames developed for circumstances yet to be ascertained, around midnight, while the children were sleeping.

"In addition to the victims, there are many injured, taken to hospital in very serious conditions," said national police spokesperson Resila Onyango.

"The bodies recovered," he added, "were burned beyond recognition... it is likely that more bodies will be recovered," the spokesman added.

Local authorities have opened an investigation into the incident.
