Tensions are rising over the case of two Italian Flotilla activists stopped in Libya on a humanitarian convoy headed for Gaza . The two were reportedly transferred to Benghazi and treated as possible illegal immigrants . Informed sources, however, explain that they could be expelled shortly and returned to Italy .

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also addressed the matter, confirming ongoing contact with Cyrenaica authorities . "The two activists are expected to appear before a judge this morning, so I hope a decision will be made regarding their return to Italy," the minister stated to reporters in Rome. "We are working with our representatives in Benghazi, and I hope they can be expelled as soon as possible to return home."

The incident erupted yesterday, when the Global Sumud Flotilla convoy, consisting of approximately 200 people , seven ambulances, and ten trucks carrying humanitarian aid, attempted to cross Cyrenaica to open a corridor to Gaza. On the way to Sirte, a group of ten activists—including the two Italians—were reportedly stopped by militias loyal to General Khalifa Haftar.

According to organizers, militia from the 604th Brigade deployed snipers and armed vehicles near a checkpoint. A small group of activists, composed of Italian, American, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, and Greek citizens, then approached to negotiate with local authorities. However, after passing the checkpoint, contact was lost.
