Soldiers from the UNIFIL mission led by the Sassari Brigade continue to carry out operations every day to allow the passage of humanitarian convoys and other civilian movements within their area of operations.
"Among these activities," a statement reads, "a fundamental role is played by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams, who, for example, inspect and secure various roads daily for possible explosives."
Since the escalation of hostilities in early March, they have detected and neutralized dozens of unexploded ordnance, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and crashed drones.
These tasks are increasingly dangerous, as mines are being planted along roads in various locations. Peacekeepers have also provided security escorts for humanitarian convoys and coordinated numerous other such missions.
Yesterday, a group of UNIFIL soldiers worked all day to reopen a 2.5-kilometer stretch of road connecting some villages in the south with Naqoura , damaged during recent hostilities.
Equipped with earthmoving machinery, excavators, and bulldozers, the military filled craters, removed roadblocks, repaired potholes, and located and neutralized unexploded ordnance and other residual hazards.
