The US military says it killed 15 ISIS fighters in a raid in Iraq.
The US military command for the Middle East (CENTCOM) announced this in a statement on X. The action - Centcom specifies - was conducted together with the Iraqi army in the west of the country.
"This group was equipped with numerous weapons, grenades and explosive belts. There were no reports of civilian casualties," a Pentagon statement said. The operation was reportedly conducted Thursday morning.
"ISIS remains a threat to the region; our allies and our country - add the US authorities -, together with our coalition and Iraqi partners, will continue to actively pursue these terrorists."
The operation comes as Baghdad and Washington have been engaged in months-long talks over the presence of anti-jihadist coalition forces in Iraq.
The United States has about 2,500 troops in Iraq and 900 in Syria as part of the international anti-ISIS coalition.
