Singer Parastoo Ahmady has been arrested by Iranian authorities. The 27-year-old has been performing on YouTube without wearing a hijab in recent days, the AP reported, citing her lawyer. Milad Panahipour, an Iranian lawyer, said the artist was arrested today in Sari City, the capital of Iran's northern province of Mazandaran.
Two days ago, the judiciary opened proceedings against Ahmady who performed, accompanied by four male musicians, wearing a long, tight black dress, with bare shoulders and no veil on her hair, an attire that openly violates the rules imposed by the Islamic Republic .
Ahmady had posted her concert on YouTube the day before, saying, “I am Parastoo, a girl who wants to sing for the people I love. This is a right I could not ignore: to sing for the land I love passionately.” The online performance has been viewed more than 1.4 million times.
