Amjad Amini , father of Mahsa, the 22-year-old of Kurdish origin who died in Tehran after being placed in custody by the morality police because she had not worn the veil correctly, has been arrested. The facts date back exactly one year ago.

The man was stopped while leaving his home in Saqqez. The news was reported by the NGO "Hengaw" and by various accounts of Iranian dissidents on the web.

In recent days - as the anniversary of the very young girl's death approached - Amjad Amini had been placed under surveillance. He was also asked not to organize any ceremony to remember Mahsa. He would now be transferred to an unknown location .

But the memory of the young woman is still alive in various cities of Iranian Kurdistan, where strikes and demonstrations are underway . Following an appeal launched by various Kurdish political parties and activists, many shops remained closed in Baneh, Kamyaran, Divandarreh, Sanandaj and Saqqez, Mahsa's hometown. In some neighborhoods citizens took to the streets, shouting slogans against the Islamic Republic and creating traffic jams. In Iranian Kurdistan - in view of the anniversary - security measures have been strengthened in recent days.
