The pandemic returns to scare Europe, the only region in the world - notes the WHO - in which both infections and deaths are constantly growing for the sixth consecutive week.

Out of 3.1 million new cases globally, 1.9 - almost two thirds - have been reported in the Old Continent, + 7% in the last week. Deaths increased by 10%, in Europe over half of the 48 thousand reported globally.

The European Center for Disease Control (ECDC) estimates a "very worrying" situation in 10 countries: Belgium, Poland, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary and Slovenia.

The situation in ten other countries is only “worrying”: they are Germany, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Romania and Slovakia.

Italy remains at a "low concern" level with Malta, Sweden, France and Spain.

Here is the situation in the main countries.

In Germany, the latest data certify an average of 400 infections per million inhabitants compared to 280 per million in the previous week. The same goes for deaths: 2.4 per million compared to 1.6 7 days earlier. 67% of the population received two doses.

In France in the last week the incidence has risen from an average of 98 to 141 infections per million. The percentage of vaccinated (first dose and booster) is 69%. Macron has decided on the obligation of the booster to the over 65s to renew the green pass.

In contrast, Great Britain : England registered one case for every 60 inhabitants, compared to one in every 50 the week before. Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland also fell. The campaign for third doses is advancing, with 12 million already administered.

In the Netherlands, an average of 12 thousand infections in the last week, compared to 8 thousand in the previous seven days, which convinced the government to restore - the first in Europe for months - a partial lockdown . Here, 72% of the population is vaccinated.

In Austria, there has been a decrease from 6,600 weekly cases as of 5 November, to an average of 9,600. 63% of the population is vaccinated here, and the lockdown for no vaxes has started on Monday.

In Belgium in one week, infections have increased by 42%, hospitalizations by 20%. The percentage of vaccinated is 74%. In Spain the incidence is still growing, albeit with a less pronounced trend than in others. Over 14 days it is 67 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Almost 89% of the population over 12 has completed the vaccination course and over 2 million frail and over 70 have received a third dose.

The worst situation is in Eastern Europe . Romania, with only 40% immunized, has recorded over 5 thousand infections per million inhabitants in the last two weeks. Difficulties, also in terms of hospitalizations and deaths, also in Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria, while in the Czech Republic since the end of October the curve has shot up, going from an average of 2 thousand infections to 8,500.

In Russia , on the other hand, people travel at an average of over 40 thousand infections a day, and in recent weeks, records have been burned after record deaths, up to 1,239 in 24 hours. Less than 35% of the population is vaccinated here.
